Maria Butina had wider contacts than assumed

Accused Russian agent Maria Butina took part in meetings with two senior officials at the Federal Reserve and US Treasury, according to a Reuters report.

They involved Stanley Fischer, the Fed vice chairman at the time and Nathan Sheets, who was the Treasury undersecretary for international affairs at the time.

The meeting probably isn't consequential because Butina was assisting Alexander Torshin, then the Russian Central Bank deputy governor.

Butina has been ordered to be held without bail until trial.
