Two mega-cap companies are reporting after the market close in American Express and Intel and we’ll be watching out for comments on the strength of the US consumer and global IT spending.
AmEx has beat on earnings for 8 consecutive quarters and doesn’t necessarily offer a great deal of insight on the global economy. Then again, it’s usually companies that miss on earnings that point to the economy. In the most-recent report, AmEx said “the global economic environment remains uneven”.
Intel is also reluctant to comment on the global economy but a big story in 2014 is capex spending and they might offer some clues on corporate IT spending plans.
An even bigger market mover will be General Electric results on Friday before the bell.
