Poking the President
Pres. Trump criticized Attorney General Sessions during his Fox interview. During the interview delivered a critical assessment of Session's oversight of the US Justice Department, saying he has not taking control of the agency.
Now Sessions has responded by saying:
- Justice Department actions will not be improperly influenced by political considerations
- I demand the highest standards, and where they are not meant to take action
More specifically he said:
"I took control of the Department of Justice today I was sworn in. While I am attorney general the actions of the Department of Justice will not be improperly influenced by political considerations"
The comments against his boss, will likely stir the caged lion and could lead to his firing. You wonder what the implications of that - should it happen - as more friends turn to enemies of late.
There is little reaction in the stocks although gains have been reversed in the Nasdaq. It is still up by 3.8 points at 7892.50. The high reached 7926. The low reached 7866.
In other political news from earlier, federal prosecutors granted immunity to David Pecker, the CEO of the company that publishes the National Enquirer.
The Wall Street Journal reports, that Pecker met with prosecutors to describe involvement of Cohen, Trump in hush money deals to women ahead of the 2016 election. They add that Pecker is a longtime friend of both Cohen and Trump.
