The Pentagon is shutting some 15 military bases in Europe which will save them around $500m per year.
Bases in the UK, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Belgium and the Netherlands will be handed back to host countries over the next couple of years. Around 3200 personnel will be leaving RAF Mildenhall in the UK
The move might be a little surprising given the recent tensions with Russia and Ukraine and the areas themselves could lose out economically.
