– MPC Member Has Not Made Up Mind Whether To Vote For More QE In Nov
LONDON (MNI) – Bank of England Monetary Policy Committee member Ben
Broadbent has said that expects interest rates to remain “pretty flat
for a pretty long time”, according to an interview published in the
Lancaster Evening Post newspaper.
Broadbent also said that there were “clear signs” that the BOE’s
quantitative easing programme was working but said he viewed it “no
differently to standard monetary policy” insisting it was the only
stimulus left for the economy with interest rates so low.
Many economists predict the Bank will look to inject further QE
into the economy when it meets in November, but Broadbent said he was
undecided on the issue
“At the moment, we are doing the next round of forecasts where we
have to have a detailed look at what we think is going on in the economy
and then we will have another policy meeting in a couple of weeks,” he
said.
“I literally have not made up my mind and I doubt anybody else in
the committee has, until they have seen everything and thought about
it,” he said.
