The Bank of England Governor Mervyn King has lent the beleaguered pound some much-needed support. Speaking at the press conference following the release of the inflation report, Mr King said if sterling fell far enough it would be a concern and stressed he does not want to see it fall particularly sharply. The comments, bringing with them the spectre of possible official intervention, have lifted cable to 1.5310 at writing from a session low around 1.5200.
