–BOE Jan Mortgage Approvals 41,000, Unchanged Vs December
–BOE Jan Net Mortgage Lending stg1.2 bln vs stg900 mln Dec
London (MNI) – Major banks’ mortgage approvals flatlined in
January, coming in at 41,000, unchanged from December, according to Bank
of England data.
The 41,000 outturn was, setting aside December, the lowest outturn
since the 40,000 seen back in March 2009. The data add to the evidence
that housing market activity has dried up. Recent price surveys have
shown some signs of stabilisations, with low supply meeting weak demand.
The latest BOE Trends in Lending report showed net mortgage lending
rose to stg1.2 billion in January from stg900 million in December.
Remortgaging activity increased, rising to stg4.1 billion from
stg3.0bn in December.
