Comments by BOJ governor, Haruhiko Kuroda, in parliament

BOJ
  • Wants to keep markets stable through policy
  • But does not think that monetary policy can solve everything
  • Wants to prevent deterioration of sentiment with policy decisions

The fact that they have limited ammunition and with monetary policy not being best suited to counteract the virus impact, there's not much else they can do. Boosting liquidity and easing strains on funding is important and they are doing just that.

But unless they get help from governments to curb the spread of the virus and to provide support via fiscal measures, there's only so much monetary policy can do.
