Bloomberg report

  • EU will over UK a free trade deal deeper than it's ever gone before but will reject May's demand for 'frictionless trade'

  • EU offer will contain 30-40% of May's pitch for a wide ranging deal, according to two EU diplomats

  • Talks are accelerating

  • Offer falls short of what May wants

  • Both sides hoping for breakthrough before Oct 17 EU leaders meeting

  • Document likely to say there should be no trade tariffs or quotas with UK but will insist UK doesn't gain advantage via regulation, labor law or state aid

  • Technical work almost done, save for crucial section on Irish border

  • EU looking for checks between Northern Ireland and UK mainland

Cable jumped on the headline but quickly gave it back. To me, more and more it sounds like a deal is going to get done. It's a matter of how much the pound is going to like it.
