May and Varadkar

  • Agreed in call on Monday that the intention was that the backstop should only be a temporary arrangement

  • The best solution to the Northern Ireland border would be found by agreeing to a future relationships between the EU and UK

  • May said that in order to ensure that the backstop, if needed, would be temporary there would need to be a mechanism through which the backstop could be brought to an end

The statement said they had a good, constructive conversation. To me, this sounds like it's setting up for a deal but it also sounds like the usual platitudes.
