Bundesbank chief, Jens Weidmann, comments

  • German exports not giving meaningful impetus to overall economic growth
  • Brexit drama is also contributing to global business uncertainty
  • Private consumption expected to recover in 2H 2019, to support overall growth
  • German economy expected to rebound after soft patch

The thing to note here is that German authorities are finally starting to acknowledge the slowdown seen in the economy but the rest of what they're saying rings a similar tune to what we saw last year. They're expecting a rebound in the second half of the year but as we have learnt from 2018, that is definitely not a given at this point.
