Speaking on US steel tariffs:
- US steel tariffs are unjustified and legal
- Steel tariffs should be lifted
- Reasonable to lift metals tariff after USMCA deal
Meanwhile Mexico's Ebrard adds:
- There's a windows to end metals tariffs
Needless to say the north and south allies want to see fruits of a USMCA agreement. However, Pres. Trump looks at tariffs as a tax revenue source. and with deficits soaring, I get the feeling he might not be in a hurry. This might especially be the case if he feels the US was taken advantage of with the past horrible NAFTA deal (i.e. they are a pay back).
I am just speculating but would not be surprised.
MORE from Ebrard:
- Steel tariffs could be lifted when USMCA pact is signed
On caravan:
- He isn't surprised by Trump caravan tweets
- We will substantially change Mexico's immigration policies
- There are going to be many more work visas
- new government will invest heavily in southern areas of Mexico and provide work visas to Honduras and Nicaragua
Marcelo Ebrard will be the new foreign minister under Mexico's new president Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO). He will take office on December 1.
