She did say that she and US trade negotiator Lighthizer did speak on Monday. They got that going for them.
What might be good news is Freeland also said:
- She had a long and productive talk with dairy industry representatives last Friday.
Earlier PM Trudeau said that he will stand up for Canada's system of Dairy protections at NAFTA talks. If that means the tariffs they impose on the US imported dairy (which prices them out of the market), I am not sure that will be helpful in the trade talks. If protections includes quotas on imports, they might have room to negotiate.
