LONDON (MNI) – Rising export demand is boosting UK manufacturers’
expectations for output growth, the Confederation of British Industry
said today.
In its latest Monthly Trends Survey, the CBI said that improving
demand for UK-made goods, especially from abroad, had further
boosted UK manufacturers’ expectations for output growth.
The CBI said that total orders had improved to -8% from -16% in
January. Export orders rose to a balance of +11% from in January.
But the CBI warned that manufacturing firms continue to predict
a sharp rise in output prices, with expectatiions at their strongest
since July 2008.
The CBI average prices balance rose to to +32% from +31% in
January, its highest level since July 2008.
CBI Chief Economic Adviser Ian McCafferty said:
“There is still worrying evidence of strong inflation pressures in
the pipeline, with manufacturers once again expecting to raise prices
sharply in the coming quarter. Firms’ predictions of price rises are
now very close to their last peak in the summer of 2008.”
