China President Xi speech is finished. Spoke for a long time, didn't say much.
There wasn't much of substance, maybe it was unwise to expect that.
But, nevertheless, there were expectations his speech would be more positive on the issue of the day, on trade with the US. The murmurings we have had since the meeting have been, on balance, encouraging.
But, there was nothing much in the speech and this bit:
Might be construed as belligerent (could be intended to show a domestic audience how tough he is though, I am not reading too much into this bit).
Whatever …. regional stocks have dipped a little here since the beginning of the speech, after early strength. Overnight US equity futures trade lost some of their earlier gains. AUD a touch lower also. Yeah, it appears markets were expecting a little more.
NZD defying the dip, sitting close to session highs.
