China's state council comments in the white paper issuance
- To push forward efforts to solve trade frictions with US reasonably
- US' behaviour harms world economic development, not only China
- It is normal to have trade frictions between two countries
- But US administration is leaning more towards "trade bully-ism practises"
- US has abandoned the fundamental norms of mutual respect and equal consultation
- US preaches unilateralism and economic hegemony
- US is trying to intimidate other countries through measures such as imposing tariffs
- China has responded from the perspective of common interest of both parties
- But also that of the world trade order
- US has been contradicting itself and constantly challenging China on trade
Not exactly new rhetoric from China as this has been the same old comments being touted from the commerce and foreign ministry since the steel and aluminium tariffs came into effect earlier in the year. The white paper here is more of a formal finding and one that officially lists down China's position on the matter with the US.
If anything, the takeaway here is that there's no mention on any potential trade talks to come between the two nations still. It looks like things will continue to get worse before they get any better.
