Comments by China's foreign ministry
Low-level trade talks begin today but the key meeting markets will be eyeing is the one between Lighthizer, Mnuchin and China vice premier Liu He later in the week. As the two sides meet in Beijing, this will once again cast a shadow over markets as it did last week.
I reckon investors remain hopeful for some good news despite the fact that Trump and Xi won't meet before the 1 March deadline. But I wouldn't hold my breath expecting positive headlines to come while they are in the midst of discussions this week.
