China's Geng Shuang is speaking in Beijing
- Refuses to comment on questions pertaining to Qualcomm
- Doesn't want to elaborate if there are any car tariff changes (as per Trump's tweet)
Is this where the wheels start to loosen on the risk on train? Earlier in the day, US Treasury secretary Steven Mnuchin said that he wants China to avoid on 'soft commitments' and this certainly won't help the matter.
For those needing a refresher, US and China came to a trade truce over the weekend but the statements provided differed rather heftily with US stating that China will take measures on IP protection, increase agricultural imports, and revisiting the Qualcomm-NXP issue among those mentioned.
Meanwhile, China's statement merely said that they will look at issues on trade and resolve them with the US. Basically, not giving anything away or not committing to any firm action points. And Geng's comments here is very much standard-issued orders from the top no doubt.
