Geithner spoke with Chinese Finance Minister Xie today, the second chat with Chinese officials in recent days, as he seeks to mend ties strained by his comments on currency manipulation made as part of the confirmation process. They discussed all “current challenges” faced by the two sides as well as the measures being taken to address them.

News of the discussions comes amid rumblings within the Chinese financial community that China should seek assurances from the US that its holdings in Treasury debt won’t be eroded by “reckless policies”.
