The debate will last about 85 minutes and then a secret vote of no confidence will be held. To oust him, more than half of the 400 lawmakers will need to support the motion.

The secret vote is believed to hurt his chances because enemies within his party could vote against him with impunity. Local experts say he still stands a good chance of surviving and if that's the case, the rand could give back today's gains quickly.
