Details of the December 2016 US new home sales data report 26 January 2017

  • Prior 0.592m. Revised to 0.598m

  • Single home sales 0.563m. Highest since 2007

  • Homes for sale 0.259m vs 0.249m prior

  • New home supply 5.8mth vs 5.0mths prior

  • Median sale price $322,500 vs $299,000 last year

A bit of a mixed bag despite the drop. The single home sales are strong. There can often be some seasonality in these number but one thing to keep an eye on is the supply numbers as that's quite a rise. Another one to watch is the price as we could be moving into a level of pricing that just sees some pressure placed on the housing market. No alarm bells ringing yet but something to watch over the coming months.
