Sure, you got some good news in today’s employment report. But the last guy in your shoes, George H.W. Bush saw an even more impressive improvement in the jobs numbers in the October before the 1992 election.

Let’s compare and contrast:

Obama in 2012: Nonfarm payrolls rise 114,000, a decline from last month’s 142,000. The unemployment rate fell today from 8.1% in September to 7.8% in October.

Bush in 1992: Nonfarm payrolls rose 178,000 in October , up from 35,000 in September. The unemployment rate fell to 7.3% in October from 7.6% in September.

Today’s employment report is far from a guarantee of reelection for Obama if history is any guide.
