LONDON (MNI) – The Swiss National Bank’s decision to prevent the
euro from depreciating below Chf1.20 was a unilateral decision, taken
with the ‘full responsibility’ of the SNB, European Central Bank
President Jean-Claude Trichet reiterated on Thursday.

Trichet told journalists at his regular monthly press conference in
Frankfurt that nevertheless, contacts had taken place on the issue
between the two central banks.

“We’ve been exchanging views with the SNB, I’ve been in touch
myself,” he said. “We’ve discussed a number of points.”

He added: “We understand the decision that has been taken by SNB.”
