PARIS (MNI) – European Central Bank President Jean-Claude Trichet
said Thursday that the outlook for Eurozone growth in 2011 remains in
line with the central bank’s current scenario, despite the upside
surprises for the second and third quarters of this year.

“We think that next year will be in line with what is currently
anticipated — by us as well as by all international institutions,”
Trichet said in an interview with France’s LCI television.

Growth in the second quarter of this year should be “clearly
better” than previously expected, and the third quarter is shaping up
“better” as well, Trichet said, repeating what he’d told journalists
earlier this afternoon in his monthly press conference.

“But we remain cautious,” he repeated. “We think there will be a
slowdown at the end of the year and the second half will be less dynamic
than the second quarter of this year.”

Trichet reminded that the ECB’s staff will update its macroeconomic
projections for Eurozone growth and inflation next month.
