ECB speakers and Carney on the agenda in the European morning

Comic 12-02

Good day, everyone! Hope you're all doing well as we move towards the session in Europe. It'll be a bit of a quiet one in terms of data releases but there will be a couple of central bank speakers on the schedule in the hours ahead.

0800 GMT - ECB's Jens Weidmann speaks in Pretoria

Weidmann will be speaking at an event held by the University of South Africa. The title of his speech will be "The role of the central bank in a modern economy - a European perspective". I wouldn't expect much new comments to come from Weidmann here but he may touch a bit of monetary policy and the Eurozone economy.

0900 GMT - ECB's Ewald Nowotny speaks in Vienna

Nowotny will be giving a speech at a conference involving the European Commission. I can't seem to find any details of what he'll be speaking about but it's probably just a general session. I wouldn't expect Nowotny to stray away from recent commentary by the ECB on monetary policy and the economy.

1300 GMT - BOE governor Mark Carney speaks in London

Carney will be speaking at an event on the global economy and the risks to the outlook, including the impact of rising tensions in international trade. I would expect him to touch on the current challenges faced by markets but with regards to the pound and the BOE, it's all about Brexit so don't expect Carney to deviate from what we heard last week.

Yep, the data docket today is pretty much bare in the until we have US JOLTS job openings for December later on. I wish you all the best of days ahead and good luck with your trading!
