TALLINN, Estonia (MNI) – Estonia’s central bank governor Andres
Lipstok said Monday there is a need to remain vigilant with regard to
inflation in his country.
“Estonia should remain vigilant about inflation developments and
must maintain an ambitious fiscal policy stance…to reflect its
fundamentals,” Lipstok said in a speech at the Euro Changeover
Conference here.
“Nevertheless, domestically driven price pressures are still
subdued,” the governor added, citing weak domestic demand and slack in
the economy.
“In addition, given the relatively high price and income
convergence that Estonia has already achieved, pressures from price
convergence will remain relatively subdued,” he reckoned.
