Eurozone April construction output -0.8% vs -0.3% m/m prior

Latest data released by Eurostat - 19 June 2019

  • Prior -0.3%; revised to -0.4%
  • Construction output +3.9% y/y
  • Prior +6.3%; revised to +5.8%
Much like what German data has suggested, construction activity in the euro area is beginning to slow down in Q2 and that's reflected in the data here. Relative to a year ago, things are still doing alright but a slowdown in the construction sector now amid other worsening parts of the economy means Q2 economic growth will likely be more lackluster than Q1.
