Latest data released by Markit - 4 January 2019

  • Composite PMI 51.1 vs 51.3 prelim

Preliminary figures can be found here. Much like the French and German readings, both the services and composite prints fall relative to initial estimates. The former hits the lowest since November 2014 while the latter falls to its lowest level since July 2013.

The silver lining for the misses here are that these are final readings and sentiment is very much accounted for after the initial release last month. But as mentioned earlier, if the trend persists into this year, expect these readings to continue to weigh on the euro when they are released.

EUR/USD holds steady still at 1.1411 currently. EUR/GBP still lingering near the lows at 0.9003 as the pound maintains its gains ahead of UK data at the bottom of the hour.
