European Parliament's Brexit coordinator, Guy Verhofstadt, comments in a tweet

"Today I see Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and tomorrow Prime Minister May. My message to the UK will be that it is not very responsible to try to get rid of a backstop that is meant as an ultimate safeguard to avoid a hard border and the return of violence on the Island of Ireland." — Guy Verhofstadt @ guyverhofstadt

May is set to head to Brussels tomorrow where she will also be meeting with European Commission president Juncker. Given the fact that European lawmakers will continue to insist that the backstop remain in the withdrawal agreement, I expect the meetings to be short and of little fruit to show for.
