CHUCK TODD: Would you prefer a 14 day, just sort of national shutdown to slow this down? FAUCI: You know, I would prefer as much as we possibly could. I think we should really be overly aggressive and get criticized for over reacting.

  • "I would like to see a dramatic diminution of the personal interaction we see in restaurants and bars"
  • "Things are going to get worse before they get better"
  • In worst case, no hospital system is prepared
  • Americans must be prepared to hunker down much more
  • Domestic travel restrictions not likely in near-term, no serious consideration now
  • Test access to be infinitely better than a few weeks ago
  • Crowds should be discouraged, especially at airports

The mini-scandal of the weekend is what's unfolding at US airports. Late last week Trump ordered:

  1. Ban on European flights
  2. Returning flights from Europe can only come to 13 US airports

The unintended consequence was a massive surge into US airports this weekend with people from all over Europe crammed into lineups and confined spaces -- some for as many as 10 hours.
