Comments from the KC Fed President

  • The Fed is 'quite able' to rein in inflation, the questions are always around at what point, and how much
  • 3.5% unemployment rate rate will be a marker for Fed as it watches recovery unfold
  • We will be watching for implications of new policies from new govt on unemployment and growth

Throughout its history, the Fed has always had the tool to rein in inflation -- hiking rates. So why have we had inflation? It's much tough to hike than they would like to believe, especially with the Fed having inserted itself into US politics far too much during the pandemic.
