It’s car week in the States as companies start reporting Feb numbers.
Feb car sales were down 14% and utility sales -4%. Pickup sales climbed 3% with the F-Series having its best Feb for 8 years
Ford sales analyst Erich Merkle said that industry wide sales were up 1% in Feb but that Ford sales had been hurt by shortages at plants. Small cars struggled in the month. Ford economist Emily Kolinski Morris said that they expect the US economy to grow 2.5% in 2014
Toyota have also just hit the wires with sales -4.3% vs -2.5% exp. They sas sales “emerged from a chill” in the second half of the month and that the industry is poised for a strong March.
It’s inevitable that weather was a factor and no surprise that pickup trucks saw good sales growth given the weather. Is it just another blip though?
I’d love a big US pick up truck personally except for the fact it would cost me a mortgage to fuel it each month.
