A few people are seeing slow downs in the site and that there are differing results between browsers. We know the site isn’t the fastest to load but it only takes about 3-5 seconds for posts to hit the front page which isn’t too shabby.
I’ve use Chrome beta Version 33.0.1750.112 beta-m as I find both IE and Firefox a pig to use. That’s just my personal preference. While Chrome has been fine for the most part I’m seeing a big drag on system resources at the moment which is slowing things down. I’m not a techie in any way shape of form but I know my way round a bit. If you go into your task manager and processes you can see what’s sucking your memory (click on the tags to sort them (CPU/Memory)). I also use a little program called systraymeter (google it but you load it at your own risk) which basically sits as an icon in your taskbar.
It’s basically a mirror of task manager. I run 6 screens loaded right up but still usually only run to about 750/800 memory leftover after everything’s open. As you can see from the pic that’s down to 373 left so I know something is sucking memory while CPU is fine at 46%. I’m just going through the programs to see what’s suddenly changed as the increase in mem use is starting to hit the point where my PC slows down. At the moment it looks like Chrome is sucking extra memory which could be adding to the overall slowdown.
Anyway, that’s just a little bit of housekeeping stuff my end and not necessarily 100% behind the site problems people are having. So if you are having issues then please let us know in the comments detailing what browser you use and version. If everything is running fine please also let us know what you are using so maybe we can narrow down the best browsers/versions to use. Feel free to give us any other feedback so that we can get on to our IT bods.
