France is the most vocal voice in being against a long Brexit extension

I reckon yesterday's European Council summit was very much trying to facilitate the opposite views between Germany and France on Brexit. The former wants to avoid a no-deal at all costs while the latter is getting sick and tired of the entire process.

May's fate now rests on cross-party talks but I reckon the divide is likely to prove to be too big a gap to bridge before Halloween Day. The other possible scenario is indicative votes but with May against most of the options laid out, it's hard to see the government pursuing that unless she goes first.

In short, the can is kicked down the road to 31 October but we're no closer to a Brexit deal than we were at the end of last year.
