Comments by an unnamed French official on Brexit via Reuters

  • Says that EU is prepared to hold a November Brexit summit if necessary
  • But extra summit should not be set in stone
  • October summit should already make maximum progress

There are only two EU Summits left before the year comes to a close, that being on 17-18 October and 13-14 December. Now that I think about it, it doesn't really make sense for a November summit unless they're really desperate. If Barnier can handle negotiations and a deal is on its way, this would not be needed.

The only reason why this will happen is if we're nowhere close to a deal and there still isn't any viable solutions to issues like the Irish border that will satisfy all EU member states.
