Geithner calls the Fed strong and independent and says they are committed to unwinding easing policies once economic recovery is in place.
Stocks are soft, down 2%, but the dollar is not rebounding dramatically. The feared-shift toward deteriorating US fiscal fundamentals is well underway, brought into sharper focus by today’s S&P outlook shift on the UK.
MORE FROM GEITHNER: He says his job is to sustain a strong US dollar which is a great strength and asset to the US. A bit more elegant rhetorical statement of the strong dollar-policy, it would appear.
