BERLIN (MNI) – German Economics Minister Rainer Bruederle said
Tuesday he expects non-seasonally adjusted unemployment to fall below
the important level of three million over the coming months.
“I’m very optimistic that unemployment will sink below three
million in the foreseeable future,” Bruederle told reporters here.
The Minister said Germany was currently in a classic upswing
scenario where the recovery of the export sector stimulates domestic
demand and boosts employment.
“We must now take precautions that the upswing is not threatened by
a lack of skilled labor,” Bruederle warned after a meeting with business
leaders on the matter.
Seasonal-adjusted unemployment fell by 17,000 to 3.193 million in
August, the German Labor Agency reported Tuesday. Without adjusting for
seasonal trends, the number of unemployed declined to 3.188 million this
month from 3.192 million in July.
