BERLIN (MNI) – Germany’s Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble and
U.S. Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner will meet on Tuesday in Berlin, a
German Finance Ministry spokesman said Monday.
The ministry will communicate at a later point if the meeting is to
be followed by a press conference with Schaeuble and Geithner, the
spokesman said. He said he couldn’t yet specify the topics to be
discussed at the meeting.
European heads of state and government will gather in Brussels
starting Thursday night for a summit meeting that they hope will lead to
a convincing long-term plan for greater fiscal integration and
governance in the Eurozone, and in turn to greater confidence in
financial markets.
Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel will meet French President
Nicolas Sarkozy this afternoon in Paris to try and work out joint
proposals for the summit to counter the debt crisis.
