The death count stays elevated though below the record from yesterday

Germany

Germany coronavirus details as of 16/12/2020

The latest daily case count now takes the total active cases across the country to ~334,500 as the virus situation shows little signs of abating in Germany.

Another 698 deaths were reported, bringing the total tally on that front to 24,125 persons. So far this week (14-17 December), total deaths have reached 2,338 persons. Comparatively, there were 1,600 deaths in the same period last week.

In terms of healthcare capacity, there are 4,836 (+101) coronavirus patients requiring intensive care as of yesterday with 4,546 (17%) intensive care units still available.

Germany have begun enforcing tighter lockdown restrictions starting from yesterday in hopes of flattening the curve ahead of the year-end. We'll see how things go in the coming weeks, and if these measures can be relaxed further going into Q1 2021.

However, the economy does not look like it is too fazed based on yesterday's PMI readings - which were better than the November prints. That said, we may only see the impact felt in hard data considering that the PMI survey period was up until 15 December.
