FRANKFURT (MNI) – Germany supports French Finance Minister
Christine Lagarde to take over the helm of the International Monetary
Fund following the resignation of Dominique Strauss-Kahn, German
business daily Handelsblatt reported Thursday, citing unnamed German
government sources.

The paper said that Germany and the U.S. would like Lagarde to
succeed Strauss-Kahn, accused of a sexual assault on a hotel
chambermaid, provided that the finance minister is not indicted in an
ongoing French legal affair.
