Germany's economy minister speaks to Reuters
- But notes that growth data is no reason to give the all-clear
- International trade disputes remain unresolved
- Must do everything possible to find acceptable solutions to free trade
- Says government must help companies and lower corporate, energy taxes
The mild bump in growth figures in Q1 2019 is encouraging but it's not something to get excited about. The German economy is still rather sluggish as the manufacturing sector continues to suffer and there are plenty of potential headwinds with US auto tariffs still to come and a slowing Chinese economy amid trade tensions.
