BERLIN (MNI) – German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Wednesday that
the Eurozone is on the way to overcoming its sovereign debt crisis.

“Our experience is that the whole European Union is doing well when
the euro is stabilized,” Merkel told reporters here. “And I think we’re
on the right path to achieve this.”

Meanwhile, the German Finance Ministry reaffirmed today that
Europe’s permanent bailout fund, the European Stability Mechanism, will
be operable by October 8. “I continue to assume that the date October 8
for the ESM can be fully met and also will be met,” spokesman Martin
Kotthaus said at a separate press conference here.
