UK finance minister Hammond out with a few comments 16 June
- UK will negotiate in good faith
- should prioritise protecting jobs and prosperity in talks
Hammond was due to deliver a key note speech preferring a softer Brexit at Mansion House last night along side BOE gov Carney but it was cancelled due to the tragic tower block fire events.
Speaking ahead of a meeting with other EU leaders in today Hammond says:
"We've set out very clearly our desired outcome in the Prime Minister's Lancaster House speech and in the Article 50 letter that we've sent.
"But it is a negotiation, and as we go into that negotiation my clear view. and I believe the view of the majority of people in Britain, is that we should prioritise protecting jobs, protecting economic growth and protecting prosperity as we enter those negotiations and take them forward."
In the UK focus and media is all on the awful tower block fire tragedy still unfolding but I repeat my feeling that while DUP talks continue and PM May comes under increasing pressure on all fronts the start of any talks can only be token at very best.
