Swindon plant to shut down

Honda has been sending signals about a shutdown at Swindon for some time and has denied the move was due to Brexit. The factory builds the Honda Civic for the UK market.

Sky news reports that the company will announce that the plant is closing in 2022, with the loss of 3500 jobs.

It's not a material number of job losses on its own but it's another sign about the malaise in UK manufacturing. Both sides of the Brexit debate are going to seize on this but the decline of the UK automotive industry has been ongoing for 40 years.
