Iranian President Ahmadinejad has announced that Iran has developed and tested new centrifuges “with a capacity a few times higher that the exisiting centrifuges”
This is unlikely to go down at all well with Western powers who suspect Iran’s nuclear programme is aimed at developing bombs, and have demanded Tehran halts enrichment activity.
Basically the Iranian president continues to thumb his nose at the West. I wouldn’t be surprised if the late USD rally wasn’t at least partly due to safe haven/flight to quality buying on the announcement.
