At odds with earlier comments from Italy's Pres. Mattarella

Last week, the far-right leader Matteo Salvini had made a "last offer" for a coalition government that would resist EU policies.

However, the euroskeptic Five Star Movement has refused to budge, saying it wants fresh elections instead.

The 5-Star leader Luigi Di Maio is on the wires saying the election must be held in July. That runs counter to the Italian President Sergio Mattarella who would prefer an election in December and form a neutral government in the meantime in order to work on the 2019 budget.
