Some planes grounded...
In the dead of winter in the NY where I used to live, or in Canada where Adam lives, snowy winter conditions keep you inside, can close airports and send consumers to the stores ahead of time to get supplies.
Well, it is winter in Phoenix, Arizona.
The high today is expected to approach the 120F level. This is about 49C. The all time record is 122F. So with a little push a record might be tied or beaten.
What do you do to prepare and live through 120 degrees?
Much the same that you might do if you were to have a big snow storm in January.
You stay inside. Don't go very far. Stock up on drinks and food that you might need, and hope the air conditioner works. I have extra fans going too, and it is comfortable. It'll be over soon and temperatures will be back below 110F by next Monday. Ah relief (but it is a dry heat of course with humidity at a low 10%).
By the way, some airlines are cancelling flights as when the air gets hotter, the lighter it gets. That makes it difficult for some planes to get the lift needed for taking off (mostly the smaller commuter planes). Larger planes may need more of the runway and more thrust/power on takeoff, but they do have the extra power and the runways here are longer than most around the country.
So the Deserts Blizzard is here. Time to hunker down and have a cool one.
