TOKYO (MNI) – The average price of regular gasoline in Japan this
week stood at Y150.8 ($1.95) per liter, or $7.41 per gallon, up slightly
from Y150.6 last week, while maintaining a sharp rise from a year
earlier, data released by the Oil Information Center showed on
Wednesday.

The gasoline price posted the third straight weekly rise.

On April 25, the national average of regular gasoline prices stood
at Y152.7, the highest level in more than 30 months, but it drifted
below Y150 until it began to rise again July 19.

The average price this week was up 12.5% from the Y134.1 per liter
price seen a year earlier.

The average price of high-octane gasoline stood at Y161.6 per
liter, up from Y161.3 in the previous week. It hit a record high of
Y196.0 on Aug. 4, 2008.

The average price of diesel fuel stood at Y130.1 per liter this
week, unchanged from the last week. That compares with the record high
of Y167.4 recorded on Aug. 4, 2008.

The average over-the-counter price of kerosene for heating stood at
Y1,676 per 18 liters this week, also unchanged from the last week. It
posted a record high of Y2,378 on Aug. 11, 2008.

The average home-delivery kerosene price this week was at Y1,788
per 18 liters this week, down from Y1,789 in the previous week. It hit a
record high of Y2,484 on Aug. 11, 2008.
