TOKYO (MNI) – The value of construction orders received in December
by the 50 largest contractors in Japan rose 13.1% from a year earlier to
Y1.017 trillion, the first rise in seven months, the Ministry of Land,
Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism said on Monday.
The December reading followed a fall of 5.3% month-on-month in
November.
The breakdown for the latest month follows (on-year changes in the
previous month in parentheses):
— Domestic private sector: +7.7% y/y at Y660.5 billion (vs.
-2.4%), the first rise in two months.
— Public sector: +26.0% y/y at Y219.7 billion (vs. +10.4%), the
second straight month of a year-on-year rise.
— Overseas: +38.0% y/y at Y91.9 billion (vs. -76.2%), the first
rise in two months.
