Japanese inflation data for April, all three are as expected

Headline CPI for April comes in at 0.9% y/y

  • expected 0.9% y/y
  • prior 0.5%

Core CPI is excluding fresh food: 0.9% y/y

  • expected 0.9%
  • prior 0.8%

Core-core is excluding fresh food and energy 0.6% y/y

  • expected 0.6%
  • prior 0.4%
  • this one the closest to the US core CPI equivalent

That core-core … while well short of the BOJ 2% target (I really should get that on cut and paste) would have to be a little encouragement for the BOJ.
